Celebrating Blessed Rainy Day in 2021

Blessed Rainy Day marks the end of the monsoon season in Bhutan. It starts today according to the Tibetan calendar, but will also be celebrated on September 23 according to the Bhutanese calendar.

People perceive all natural water resources to be sanctifying on this day. Citizens are encouraged to wash outdoors and symbolically cleanse themselves of all negative deeds, obstructions, and karmic defilements. Astrologers in the service of the chief abbot, Je Khenpo, try to determine the most auspicious hour for the ablution.

Today, a customary bathing ceremony in water mixed with flowers was also organised for young monks. Rinpoche conferred his blessing by chanting prayers and sprinkling the kids with water.
