Celebrating Rinpoche’s 60th birthday

Dear Friends,

We hope you are feeling well and find Dharma teachings successfully support your daily life and activities. Soon, on October 18th, our wish-fulfilling jewel – Kyabje Choney Rangshar Rinpoche – will celebrate his 60th birthday according to the Lunar Calendar. It is an opportunity to express our gratitude for Rinpoche’s immense kindness and compassion by engaging in prayers and other benevolent activities, followed by offering all merits to the Three Jewels.

A particularly meritorious action on this occasion is taking a vow to save and protect lives, sealed by a tshethar practice. You are strongly encouraged to abstain, best as you can, from killing (even small insects) or have animals sacrificed and offered for you. Unless you can completely abstain from eating meat in this life, you may decide to abstain from doing that on Rinpoche’s birthday, or on other auspicious days. It is especially beneficial to do that mindfully: take refuge, develop bodhicitta (the enlightened attitude), make vows and prayers, and dedicate merits for the benefit of all sentient beings.

On that special day, most dedicated practitioners can also decide to perform a short tshethar ritual with pure intention, love for our teacher, and gratitude for all Buddha’s teaching. For this purpose, you can use a short text composed by Rinpoche.

Whatever merit is accumulated by us, may Kyabje Tang Rinpoche live long and healthy life, and fulfil the prophesy of his root master, His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, by spreading the secret dzogpachenpo teachings around the world.

Sincerely,

Choethun team
